We have developed a series of day workshops for anyone looking to develop their skills and confidence in using Nature as a learning resourse when learning outside the classroom with children of all ages.  Ideal for teachers, child minders and particularly anyone following the Forest Schools path, interested in, or training to become a qualified Forest Schools Practitioner

Run by Scott Woolsgrove who holds the acclaimed NCFE Advanced Bushcraft Instructors Award, each day concentrates on important practical woodland skills supporting your Forest Schools training and ethos. Should you wish to join us for two or more days, you are welcome to further your wonderful woodland experience and camp overnight with us at no extra charge, however please provide your own dinner, breakfast and camping/cooking equipment - you are welcome to cook over the open fire.

Each day is  full-on and practical with our support, guidance and tuition to help develop the fundamental practical woodland skills required as a Forest Schools Assistant or Practitioner. The Forest Schools Woodland Practical Skills Days are held in 300 acres of stunning ancient woodland in Kent and will be run whatever the weather!

Woodland Craft Day

Wednesday 7th April 2010, Thursday 10th June 2010, Wednesday 4th August 2010

On this day you will learn the use of basic woodland hand tools, maintenance, storage and safety.  We will be covering safety procedures appropriate to Forest Schools sessions and the sustainable harvesting of natural materials. You will make several natural craft items out of green wood and making natural cordage - to proudly take home with you which we hope will inspire you further to create woodland craft items safely, with your children in Forest Schools Programmes.

The Camp Fire

Thursday 8th April 2010, Friday 11th June 2010, Thursday 5th August 2010

Appropriate to Forest Schools sessions, we will be covering the safe selection of camp fire location; tinder, kindling and fuel; fire lays; fire management; fire safety and extinguishing to leave no trace. You will also be introduced to the Kelly/Storm Kettle as well as cooking fun and simple fayre over the open fire and our clay oven.  You will also learn the ancient craft of Fire by Friction - creating a precious ember and blowing your tinder bundle into flame - one of the most ancient of skills.

Shelter & Story Telling

In the morning you will learn many simple and effective knots used when erecting tarps and hammocks in your Forest Schools sessions.
